The Island

The amazing vacation begins as soon as you leave the Male airport. Upon our arrival at the airport, the O&O staff will greet you, and take your luggages to the pier across the street. A relaxing cruise of 50 minutes to the resort by new O&O luxury yacht is quick and efficient. A boat transfer gets you to resort quicker than a sea plane and is easier and less faff, plus nice to blow away the cobwebs of a flight sitting on the deck in the sun. Upon island's arrival expect a warm welcome by other staff and the management. After you will be quickly transported by personal concierge to your villa for check-in - again, very smooth process.

Before to stay there, Reethi Rah for the island resort seems a bit conservative. Smooth, majestic, but perhaps lacking some details of the bounty in Maldives rural style (call it what you like) that are in fashion today. Going ashore, you will realize that refusal to follow a fashion trend is the same point: you simply do not need it when you are the best. When the other resorts participate in the race for the newest technologies, new trends in design, and in the end you can not tell which Villa is from which hotel. All of them finish with the same appearance Reethi Rah adheres to his own One & Only style. In other words, fashion comes and goes and this requires a certain level of confidence to just brush it off, in the competitive space of the Indian Ocean resorts. Purposefully not 'trendy', in the development stage to the top level of luxury, specializing in high quality service to its guests, such an experience you would have hard to find somewhere else in the Maldives.

When Reethi Rah (‘beautiful island') was first unveiled more than a decade ago, it instantly set the bar for luxury hotels in the Maldives. Its appeal continues to this day: the resort has just been voted the number one hotel in Africa and the Indian Ocean for the second year running by readers of The Telegraph's Ultratravel magazine (May 2017). One&Only Reethi Rah has once again won three awards at the Maldives Travel Awards 2018.

oorr the beach villa

The island is beautiful and large by the standards of the Maldives. Each villa has a large private outside area and, virtually, a private beach. The resort is beautifully designed, from the luxurious villas to the infinity pool and even the lighting at night along the roads. There are thoughtful touches throughout the resort. The island is eco friendly an a fleet of chauffeured golf buggies are on-hand to whisk guests around the resort and bicycles are provided to each guest to roam the island. Every road you go by is surrounded by spectacular landscape, jungle sounds and friendly faces. The orchids that they cultivate are breathtaking and they display them all over the island.

The dizzying array of facilities and things to do includes an astonishing beaches, expansive dive centre, tennis, rock climbing, FIFA-certified football pitch, boutique shopping, cookery lessons and art classes. Not to be missed is a trip out on the resort's traditional dhoni boat to nearby reefs and dive sites, including the opportunity to spot hawksbill turtles. The ocean meets every expectation on your list for a great resort. Pure fine sands are on either side of the villas, and also stretched all around the island – great for walking, and the lagoon is so blue, crystal clear and warm. Linking the Grand Beach with The Turtle Beach in its central part, the artificial island is cut by a narrow channel that can be explored by a kayak.Most of the beaches are extremely quiet and deserted actually, giving a sense of space, but it offers so much privacy as the Bungalows/Villas are very spaced out. The resort has 12 beaches and good to know that from october to may the wind comes from east side and from may to october from west side. At Reethi Rah, there is little to no waves, and the ocean is relatively shallow. Not only is the water beautiful, but aquatic, sea-life is abundant. Comfortable swimming though but if you seek good snorkilng the island's east side is better place. DOWNLOAD RESORT MAP

For indulgence of it's guest the resort has three postcard-perfect, glittering pools for the ultimate in extraordinary island living, each with its own tropical setting and striking features. The resort's iconic Lap Pool is for adults-only, a stunning, 30-metre pool that stretches out into the lagoon, with its immersive design creating the illusion you are floating into the ocean. Equipped with a built-in Jacuzzi and a carved stone lounge bed, it also has thatched break-out space on the surrounding sands make it a stylish chill-out spot. The shaded family-friendly infinity pool includes miniature hammock-strewn atolls, with gentle curves creating natural inlets for playing and splashing. The separate KidsOnly pool has its own lifeguards, for fully supervised fun on the slippery slide.

At Reethi Rah you'll meet the most interesting people from all over the world (feels like the united nations there). All top people from every country. Reethi Rah which is full over repeat guests is charging completely in line with its product. You will mostly find repeat guests who proudly tell you since when and how many times they come back. Also that, what You will notice throughout the resort is a good balance with couples and families. For those of you who are concerned about kids noise: all the kids are very well behaved and did not disturb at all. Even if that is the case you can always stay at the adult pool or your private villa beach.

Aside from the fabulous castaway location, what makes a stay here so special is the international team of more than 800 staff. Many are long-serving at the property, a loyalty that is not typical of other hotels across the region, and it's this continuity that ensures the service is intuitive, warm and assured. Reethi Rah operates on its own time zone, which is set one hour ahead of Malé, in part so that guests can marvel at the transcendental sunsets for which the Maldives is renowned at a more cocktail-friendly hour.

All guests enjoy the services of a dedicated Villa Host, on hand 24-hours a day to help with anything at all that will make stays more enjoyable and comfortable. From packing or unpacking a suitcase to organising flowers for the villa and making dinner reservations, no task is too big or too small.

As for staff - You will feel special. You may not even care about that kind of thing but you'll feel it anyway. And it will feel nice. The staff is cohesive, fun, caring, personable, proud, easygoing, smart on every level they get it. This speaks to the quality of people they hire and the management who clearly works to create a community for the staff, which is palpable. You will encounter way too many great people to list but you have the opportunity to enrich your experience through meeting so many wonderful people. You can't help but be impressed when the manager of the restaurant calls you by your names at breakfast upon first encounter and you hadn't even met yet. This is the sort of personal touch you can expect from the O&O.

Villas

A stunning redevelopment of an existing resort, the oversized and luxurious beach and water villas are another winning combination from the owners of the well-established One&Only group. Raises guest accommodation in Reethi Rah to another level the glorious Jean-Michel Gathy-designed villas range from generous beachside properties, with their own private strip of sand, to vast overwater beauties, featuring infinity pool and cabana bed for two. With over 6km of coastline, each beach villa is guaranteed privacy while maintaining glorious sea views. The water villas are built out on a series of eight jetties and have private decks overlooking the azure waters of the lagoon. The Grand Sunset Residence, with its private beach, outdoor cinema and choice of pools, offers the maximum level of exclusivity, and has played host to celebrities including The Beckhams, Tom Cruise and Gordon Ramsay. In all, there are just 128 rooms on the island.

On the land are 54 Beach Villas, 6 Duplex Villas (twin villas for familiesfamilies) and 5 Grand Beach Villas. On the water are 30 Water Villas and 2 Grand Water Villas on separate jetties around the island. The first numbered rooms, particularly for the beachbeach villas, are the best located because the vegetation in this southwest corner is well advanced and the beaches are finer too. Water villas are simply landmark, with their unique networks stretched around the sun terrace. Beach Villas, neatly arranged on twelve, worthy artist's brush of ideal beaches, delight with additional insulation and space. Each lavish villa is detached, expansive and equally luxurious. With a wide interval apart, and protected by dense tropical vegetation, they offer more than just a roof, walls, plenty of space and total privacy. The beach villas are best for easy access to snorkelling, followed by lazy afternoons in a hammock tied between two palm trees. Bliss.

The interiors of the villas follow an elegant and glamorous style that can be found throughout the resort: a kind of polished luxury chic that blends well with state of the art high-tech and massive decadent mosaic baths in villas. All villas have vaulted ceilings and are beautifully styled in wood and natural stone with cool chalk-white fabrics, elegant furniture and sunken baths. There's also oodles of outdoor space and some boast private pools. All villas include: dedicated villa host, fresh fruit daily, bottled water, tea and coffee facilities, One&Only beach tote.

overwater pool villa

A few words about the Beach Villas. The beautiful villas all have fashionable modern architectiral design and spacious and very thoughful layout are always spotlessly cleaned. Very high ceilings give the atmosphere of air. When you enter the villa you get immediately into the bedroom area. The back area where bathtube, WC, shower, washing stands HERS and HIS, carboards are located is separated from the bedroom area by the partition in such way that even if you close it the light gets into the bedroom which disturbs if there is someone is sleeping already. All villas are equipped satellite TV channels, nice amenities, and excellent wifi signal.

Beach Villas Queen differ from King villas in beds only. You can enjoy direct views of the ocean and a private stretch of beach from the bed. Beach Villas feature either one King-size or two Queen-size beds, oversized bathtub, indoor and outdoor showers, and a 26m2 veranda offering a versatile exterior living space.

Beach Villas with Pool come with a private outdoor pool (23m²/248ft²), an outdoor dining area and daybed shaded by tropical trees and stretching towards the ocean adds to the allure of the Beach Villas. In addition to the versatile exterior living space, Beach Villas with Pool feature either one King-size or two Queen-size beds, oversized tub and indoor and outdoor showers. (165m²/1,775ft² including pool)

If you are with children it is better to stay on the east side as the beaches are shallow or ask for North Beach or Grand Beach. The Gra nd Beach is perfect for kids as the lagoon is large and safety for swimming.

Water Villas are connected by walkways from secluded points on the island. A truly sublime retreat, these villas feature outdoor covered terraces on stilts and split-level verandas with steps into the ocean. The Water Villas are every bit as gorgeous as it looked in photos. It's lofty and open, luxurious and well-designed. Everything is provided for and it is such a privilege to spent the day kicking around or coming back from dinner in the evening to such an amazing place. We recommended to take room on the sunset side of the island. It's windier sometimes there but you'll witness the most incredible sunset...like ever. A great bonus - you no have mosquitos. We would definitely recommend the west side for these reasons. The best parts of the trip is the days spent around the villa snorkeling off the deck, hanging in the hammock and lying in the sun. We are sure the beach villas are lovely too, but it'll be mesmerizing seeing rays and sharks and other marine life just swimming by during the day or at night an experience missed in a beach villa.

These villas are the same size as the Beach Villas, and feature netted wraparound hammocks suspended over the water on the outer rim of the deck allowing. Similarly, the daily fruit bowl is underwhelming, with just a small number of the same fruit each day - for example 3 grapefruit on one day, 4 rambutans on another, with no selection or care for its presentation. Please be advised that due to Maldivian law, and for the safety of all guests, children under the age of 12 are not permitted in the Water Villas.

Comes with complimentary bikes and buggies for exploring the island's paradisiacal surroundings, The Grand Sunset Residence, One&Only Reethi Rah's most spectacular and an indulgent accommodation. An exclusive island getaway of privilege and privacy, The Grand Sunset Residence offers an extravagant space and exquisite touches of luxury create the ambience of a private beach house, with three en suite bedrooms, lavish living and dining areas, private beach, personal chef, cinema area and a private 50m² swimming pool surrounded by an elaborate terrace with inviting social spaces for relaxing and entertaining. Commanding the island's largest stretch of private beach, nestled amidst tropical greenery, the most astounding villa can accommodate up to nine people (six adults and three children).

Dining

There are four restaurants on the island. Food options start from the monumental main restaurant where you will be served generously breakfast to an informal beach dining with amazing choice of Middle Eastern cuisine (the beach bar here is the best place for sunset cocktail) and - all the favorite - the Japanese themed restaurant. It's not just resort food. It's exquisite. From the awe-inspiring breakfast offerings to having the chance to have an off-menu private lunch prepared for poolside by the chef, you will always impress by the quality and thoughtfulness of the food. Each dining place is different with unique setting including romantic Botanica, a lantern-lit spot under the trees with an emphasis on ‘garden-to-fork' dishes; Reethi, an extraordinary space inspired by Chinese architecture, for Asian, French and Italian cuisine; and Tapasake, a great spot for sunset views - and reef sharks swimming in the water below - for modern Japanese tapas-style. The Fanditha Bar is the place to be at sunset, with its cabana beds, shisha pipes and chilled-Ibiza vibe. Afternoon tea is available at Fanditha daily. Reethi is also the setting for breakfast, with views out across the island's loveliest beach, for an astonishing array of options, including a walk-in cold store stuffed with fruit, fish, pastries (and more besides) and a superfoods area for cleansing juices. The Beach club and RahBar are both very good for lunch each day.

Half board clients still have to pay extra if you want to attend some of the special events, however the regular restaurants such as the Italian, French and Asian offer outstanding food and views. The breakfasts are world class with service to match.

A temple of exquisite dining, the dramatic design of Reethi Restaurant frames the natural beauty all around and the stunning cuisine, impeccable service and low-key ambience within. An eclectic menu fuses flavours from Asia Pacific and the Mediterranean into a light, contemporary cuisine. Floor-to-ceiling glass screens reveal the ‘open-concept’ show kitchen, and a walk-in wine room with an extensive collection doubles as a private dining room for special events. There are a number of special themed dinners such as Italian buffet dinner, Arabia Cuisine Buffet, Indian Masala Night. Asian buffet dinner, and two nights just a la carte French and Asian foods for dinner. Food and service are amazing and always impressive. The amount of effort and care that the F & B team puts in at each meal service will be much appreciate by you.

Breakfast is the highlight each day. The variety of foods at breakfast is impressive. You get a huge buffet selection from cold cuts, salads, fresh yogurts, cheese and crackers, fruits, pastries, crepes, waffles, dim sum. There is a kid's corner. There is breakfast champagne if you choose. The best part is choosing from the menu, all kinds of a la carte items from pancakes, eggs, omelettes. There is a selection of fresh juices, and protein shakes. Coffees from cappuccino, espresso, drip, pressed, brewed, and all kinds of teas. All are complimentary.

Vegetarian and vegan cuisine has experienced a surge in popularity as diners turn away from meat, in favour of dishes that hero healthy, plant-based ingredients prepared in a way that highlights their natural properties. For Vegetarians there is the Wellness stall with incredible wellness food. Banana, coconut flakes, oats, red and green apple, spirulina, and yogurt. This meal really will give you morning a feeling of healthy start of the day. Other dishes include Activator, Powerful-P Antioxidant, Detox Blends, and The Skin food. Every dish is prepared with fresh ingredients.

The menu features superb fish and seafood, fresh from the Indian Ocean, and wagyu beef transformed into Indian-Japanese tapas. A wine list highlighting an exciting collection of Rieslings and Pinot Noirs complement the food particularly well. There is casual dress code for gentlemen and ladies.

Childcare

The resort does score does top the mark for its children's facilities. Children of all ages are welcome to come and stay at the resort. With a dedicated team of certified counsellors One & Only look after children better than anyone. The fact that there are only 6 family villas indicates that not so many are brought along, but those that are must have a fun time here. One of the best anywhere in the Maldives, the KidsOnly club for 4-9 year olds sees them constructively entertained all day and a ClubOne for teenagers is a loosely structured hang-out packed with good things.

Children are catered for, ranging from ‘Kids Only', which has a cute pool lined with child-sized sunloungers; ‘OneTribe' (ages nine to 11), for a ‘chillout zone' of playstations and movie nights; and ‘Teens' for scheduled activities aimed at young people aged 12 and over. The kids' club provides activities both in and outside of the club including swimming, scavenger hunts, arts and craft and cooking. There's also a range of classes and activities on offer, from sushi cookery lessons, chocolate making, pottery classes and banana boat rides. The activities are age appropriate, and fun, and give the children independence and allowed them to discover the beautiful island. Activities

One&Only offers a wide range of activities including scuba diving, snorkelling and sailing. Other water sports on offer include banana tube rides, canoeing, kayaking, water-skiing and windsurfing. Island hopping, cocktail cruises and big game deep-sea fishing excursions can also be arranged. There is a tennis court, gymnasium and spa to further entertain.

North Male Atoll (also known as North Kaafu atoll) is the most known and explored diving area in the Maldives, this atoll has the most complete and colorful reefs among all the Maldives. There are also many wrecks, caves, channels, walls and drift diving with large pelagic species such as mantas and hammerhead sharks. With easy accessibility, wide choice of accomodation and a fabulous range of sites, North Malé Atoll is visited by divers more often than any other group of islands in the Maldives. READ MORE

The Dive Centre at One&Only Reethi Rah offers guided diving and introductory courses to Maldives visitors. It is certified as a PADI Gold Palm Resort Dive Centre and a 100% Project Aware member, one of the few in Maldives. The team consists of professional PADI Instructors, who are all equally passionate divers and dive teachers. Courses are taught from basic scuba demonstrations for the completely uninitiated including Bubblemaker for kids up to professional level dive master.

As the resort is on the outer edge of the Atoll the sea life is less impressive than resorts closer to the centre. The house reef is a reasonable way out and not great, though you may still see turtles and reef sharks. There are reasonable dive sights within a short-ish speed boat journey from the resort. To be fair, few guests are coming to Reethi Rah for underwater adventures, although the snorkeling off the main beach is amazing. You can take a paddle boat out to the reef and tie up to a buoy. You also can take snorkeled with sea turtles excursion by boat. The gym is very impressive. A full range of free weights, kettlebells, Kinesis machine, mats, foam rollers, battle ropes, cardio machines and a Queenax system, plus a lot of stuff you may not have seen before. Even on rainy days, the staff make sure to have plenty of activities to keep guests busy.

Keen for more water-based fun? Guests can opt for a trip on the hotel's traditional dhoni boat – activites include a day of snorkelling and picnicking on a tiny desert island; a sunrise fishing trip during which you learn age-old Maldivian fishing methods (if you catch anything, the chef will prepare it back at the hotel); or simply a sunset champagne cruise where you can spot dolphins and stargaze.

Why stay here? What Guests Love

  • 12 fabulous beaches to choose from on the island
  • A lot of space inside and around beach villa, especially those accommodation facilities that have their private pool. We really liked the extensive beach area right in front of the villa, and a hammock! All villas are well located relative to each other, offering privacy and a sense of total exclusivity;
  • Water villas, with their multi-level decks, are surrounded by grids stretching over the azure waters. It is possible to spend hours pleasantly, simply basking in the sun, and watching schools of colorful fish (and predators), right under you. To swim you enough to take a step into the calm and clear waters, straight from the deck. Real bliss!
  • Beautiful, famous main infinity swimming pool - its design leaves an indelible impression;
  • Plenty to do for children of all ages
  • Attention to detail comprehensive and high-quality service;
  • Do not miss bicycles. Around the island there is a network of routes and trails to pedal. And I really mean a lot: this island is quite massive;
  • Absolutely fabulous choice for breakfast and all very tasty;
  • Amazing spa: the menu of medical procedures is one of the best in the Indian Ocean, including family spa programs. We recommend the 2-hour proprietary procedure One & Only, in order to fully appreciate the location;
  • Despite its age, the resort does not show any signs of aging. Everything on this island is perfect;
  • Excellent Dive Centre on the island
  • A lot of greenery - you'll never guess, but this island is almost man-made;
  • Our favorite was Tapasake restaurant located over the water. Delicious food and a pleasant setting, excellent service.
  • Complimentary hi-speed WIFI throughout the resort

What You Need to Know

  • One&Only Reethi Rah has named Andreas Porias as its General Manager, effective 19 August 2022.
  • In response to Coronavirus (COVID-19), additional safety and sanitation measures are currently in effect at this property.
  • TRANSFER DETAILS (excluded from room rate): Please note that the property is accessible by speedboat transfer takes 45 minutes, or Seaplane transfer takes 20 minutes from Male International Airport. Guests must send arrival and departure flight details directly to the property at least 72 hours prior to arrival.
  • Transfers to/from Male is very effective, by a beautiful luxury speed boat - but on the upper deck it can be very windy!
  • Check out until 12:00 PM. The earliest check-in time from 2:00 PM
  • Children of any age are welcome. Kids aged 12 years and above are considered adults at this resort.
  • CHILD POLICY: Children under 11 years will eat for free based on the rules and meal-plan accompanied by an adult, excluding alcoholic beverages. Maximum 2 free kids per unit paid.
    Mandatory green tax of USD 6 per child per night will be charged.
  • To win an extra hour of sunlight, the island has its own time zone (one hour ahead of Malé);
  • Since the island is artificial, the house reef is not particularly interesting;
  • According to the Maldivian standards, Reethi Rah is very large - but this should not frighten you to stroll around the island. The resort offers the bicycles and an efficient buggy service. You can also rent buggies for the whole day;
  • This resort is located at the top 10 best luxury hotels list, and the place is not cheap, so value for money is not great: expect to spend money. Just be prepared. And now we can tell you that it's worth every cringeworthy signature of a room service or spa bill that will come your way during your stay. Enjoy the time of your life!
  • Three-quarters of the present resort is man-made. The vast extension of the original island to create curves of new beaches with widely spaced villas - and waterbungalows extending from the ‘headlands' - was a staggering project and is unique in the country (and probably anywhere else).
  • For the repeat guests the resort laids on lovely additional extra surprises at no charge
  • When dining at Tapasake take a table overlooking the water to spot the nurse sharks coming in to feed under the jetty lights.
  • Due to safety and privacy concerns the operation of unmanned aerial systems or drones by any of guests including model aircraft by recreational users and hobbyists is prohibited.
  • Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), this property is taking steps to help protect the safety of guests and staff. Certain services and amenities may be reduced or unavailable as a result. Sauna is closed from Fri 24 Jul 2020 until Wed 30 Sept 2020. Hot tub/jacuzzi is closed from Fri 24 Jul 2020 until Wed 30 Sept 2020
