Everything You Need to Know about Baa Atoll
Experience Baa Atoll: Pearl of the Maldives
Updated September, 2023
Baa Atoll is the first Maldives UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, famous for its incredible manta rays and whale sharks experiences at Hanifaru Bay is one of the best pearls of the Maldives. A prestigious place in Maldives, until recently 5-star Soneva Fushi was the only resort in the atoll, but in recent years saw the rapid growth of new luxury hotels that have replenished the collection of luxurious accommodation in Baa atoll.
Baa Atoll is located north-west of Malé and separated from the central atolls by the broad waters of the Kandiva Channel. The atoll is comprised of 75 islands scattered across nearly 1200km2 of sea and of these, only thirteen are inhabited and home to a population of around 11,000 Maldivians. Seventeen islands have been developed into resorts, including luxury brands such as Anantara, Amilla, Milaidhoo, Vakkaru and Four Seasons, as well as several guest houses on local islands.
With excellent location in the Maldives' first and only UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, beautiful Baa is a 35-minute seaplane journey from Malé International Airport or a 25-minute domestic flight to Dharavandhoo Domestic Airport. From Dharavandhoo, resort transfer boats whisk guests across the lagoon to their island of choice. Quite often the cost of this transfer is included as part of your package. Public speedboats from Malé take about 2 hours and 40 minutes and cost USD65 each way whilst the cargo ferries take 8 hours and cost around USD25 each way.
Fantastic marine life, beautiful nature and unspoilt islands of Baa atoll are the best choice for those who want to feel like the modern Robinson Crusoe. The main feature of relaxation in Baa atoll resorts is a perfect mix the privacy with luxury and comfort by the high-end standards. The world class diving elsewhere in the atoll is also a major draw. Dont miss superb snorkeling with whale sharks and manta rays in Hanifary Bay. If you want a truly unforgettable vacation and perfect holiday in the Maldives - the Baa atoll will be a wise choice.
